1. Garden Glow at Maymont (FAMILY)

Why we love it: Maymont lights up after dark with illuminated trails and gardens, food trucks and fire pits for s'mores. It's a cozy fall night out for the whole family.

2. In the Park After Dark: Nocturnal Nature (KIDS)
When: Thursday, October 22, 5:30-8:30 PM
Where: Deep Run Park, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway, Henrico
Why we love it: Henrico Recreation & Parks hosts a free evening of owl prowling, bat watching and a sheet-lighting station for moths and other nocturnal insects. It's an all-ages adventure that's perfect for curious kids.

3. Hardywood Holiday Beer Release Day (ADULTS)
When: Friday, October 23, 2-9 PM (live music with The Embalmers 6-9 PM)
Where: Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, 2410 Ownby Lane, Richmond 23220
Why we love it: Hardywood rolls out its holiday lineup on Friday, including Gingerbread Porter, Christmas Pancakes, Babka GBS and Bourbon Caliente GBS. Stay for live music from The Embalmers in the evening.

4. Dominion Energy Cap Trail Classic (FAMILY)
When: Saturday, October 24, 7 AM
Where: Virginia Capital Trail, Richmond
Why we love it: Half marathon, 10-miler, 5K and a kids' Mummy Mile on the scenic Virginia Capital Trail, with a costume contest and a finish-line party with music, beer and vendors. Run it or cheer from the sidelines.
